Portrait of Max featured at Museum of the Dog in NYC

Exciting news! My portrait of Max, the Bracco Italiano, was one of 20 paintings chosen to be in the upcoming Dog Days of Winter show at the @museumofthedog in New York City. The exhibition will be on view from January 24th to February 14.

And here’s the kicker, the show is also a contest that YOU will be able to vote on, so stay tuned for details on how you can help me win! MAX, Oil on Canvas, 20″x20″, 2018

Happy 2020!

Happy New Year! Happy New Decade! It’s The Year of the Horse, at least in my studio. This is FRANCESCA’s SHADOW, a memorial portrait commissioned by Andy Ackerman for someone who recently lost her long time friend. It’s my first horse portrait, and I’m hoping to do lots more. So tell your horse-y friends that Robert Lucy is painting horses in 2020!

Lucy the Bijon Frisé

For my last post of the decade, I present LUCY, the Bijon Frisé. Meredith Knight (my dear sister) commissioned this Christmas portrait of her new friend with the name that is woven through her life in various and meaningful ways. Thank you all who have supported my work this last decade.

Happy July!

Happy July you guys! Let the sun shine in! This is my portrait of FANNY. Fanny recently returned to the light, but she is being remembered and celebrated in many ways, especially by @katenoon, her BFF. 12”x12”, oil on canvas.

Scout the Kitty

Happy June! This is my recent Portrait of SCOUT the Kitty. Scout’s BFF @lizsteinglass was a very dear friend of mine at John Burroughs School, where I will be having a one person show in the Fall. Liz and I used to spend a lot of time in the painting studio, and shared a deep love for our painting teacher Joanna Collins. Liz’s husband @davidsteinglasscommissioned this portrait as a surprise for her. SURPRISE, LIZ!! And thanks, @danawheels , for the Hat.

May Flowers!

April showers bring May flowers… Happy May Day! This is LILY, the labradoodle, her friend @mollycs and I have been friends since we were 12 year olds winning record albums (Supertramp?) for our dance moves in a church basement in St. Louis.

Autumn in the Catskills

C’est Novembre! That’s French for, It’s November! And this is LOUIS, @kimweild’s beautiful, impeccably dressed French poodle.

Opus 40

Happy October! In honor of my favorite month, my birth month, I chose my favorite dog, SALLY, to be the subject of this month’s limited edition print. Here I am at OPUS 40 in Saugerties NY, in front of the 9 ton obelisk that one man managed to install as the centerpiece of his earthwork sculpture.

Queen Meow Meow

Here’s my latest portrait, Queen Meow Meow who recently joined her friend Lulu in pet heaven. I made her portrait to hang with Lulu’s from 4 years ago. @maragon25
